Sitar maestro Dhrubesh comes from one of the great music families of Nepal. His great grandfather Pt. Dev Chandra Regmi was the first one to popularise the sitar instrument in Nepal, his grandfather Pt. Krishna Ch. Regmi was the winner of prestigious Indra Rajya Laxmi National Award for preserving the musical tradition in Nepal. His father Pt. Satish Chandra Regmi was the head of the music department at Tribhuvan University, Nepal for many years. Dhrubesh himself began playing sitar at the feet of his father and later with renowned sitar maestro Pt. Uma Shanker Mishra of Delhi. He holds a master's degree in arts (music) from the University of Delhi, Sangeet Alankar (Master of Music) degree in music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya of India, as well as a bachelor's degree in law from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. He has awarded Doctor of Philosophy in music from Delhi University, India in his Ph. D thesis "The History of Music in Nepal with Special Reference to Classical Music during Rana Period". |

He is respected as both a musician and as an academic. While his playing reflects hi,s deep knowledge of raga form, he has been a lecturer at Padma Kanya Campus, Nepal since 1988. He has participated in many music events and conferences in Nepal, India and other parts of the world. Dhrubesh is the recipient of numerous respective awards and prizes in Nepal as well as in India, including first prize in Radio Nepal's 1989 Classical Music Competition, Kirateswar Sangeetashram Award 2002, Swar Sangam Youth Sangeet Award 2004 etc. |
